On Tuesday, Matt Healey met with Charlotte, the Commercial and Events manager at Luctonians Rugby Club.
They discussed both the Rugby side of the club, which includes an impressive hospitality lounge, as well as the events and other sports that are held at the club. These sports include Cricket, Rounders and Croquet.
Luctonians also host a number of events such as the upcoming Sundogs festival on 21st June, which is attended by hundreds of people.
Luctonians 1st Team compete in the National League 2 West and were unfortunate to miss out on promotion last season, by finishing second in the league. Luctonians had led the league table for a large proportion of the season, but were beaten to the title by Dings, who finished seven points ahead of Luctonians at the end of the season.
The club want to push forward and get promoted, with the players happy to travel. They travel to games that are held anywhere from the North West of England, down to Cornwall in the South West.
Luctonians also have four other men’s teams, alongside the first time, as well as a women’s team and multiple junior sides.
There is a clear pathway to the top level of Rugby by starting at Luctonians, this has been proved recently with Archie Benson joining Premiership club Northampton Saints just last month, where he will join Tom Pearson, who also started his career at Luctonians.
Predominantly a collection of old Lucton School boys, the side played its initial season in a field behind the Angel Inn in Kingsland. The club now plays at Mortimer Park. Luctonians moved there in 1967. At Mortimer Park, there are five pitches, a clubhouse, spectator stand and other facilities such as food stands and a cricket pavilion.
During the 2023/24 season Luctonians raised Ā£18,000 forĀ We are Farming MindsĀ and LuctoniansĀ on the āLucs in Greenā matchday.
