Over in the USA, the Utah Mountain Lion Conservation use trail cameras, or camera traps as we call them here in the UK, to monitor populations of wild mountain lions, also known as pumas or cougars, in order to improve the public perception and management of these extraordinary big cats.
The conservation organisation uses these trail cameras at potential kill sites in order to provide footage for identifying individual mountain lions, learning from their behaviour and watching their interactions with other members of their pride. They live individually or in a female & cub group until the cub leaves home.
The camera traps can also observe other wildlife visiting the kill and see how this provision of a food source affects many species.
The valuable footage is then used to educate the local mountain and Utah residents and prove that peaceful co-existence with one of nature’s majestic creatures is entirely possible.
Unfortunately, earlier this year, a number of high-quality trail cameras were stolen from the Utah Mountain Lion Conservation, they think by hunters. It was then impossible to record and observe the mountainlions in their natural habitat and all their good work and educational learning was put at risk. Utah Mountain Lion Conservation put a post out on social media telling the wildlife filming world what had happened.
At home in Ross on Wye, the Cambush team saw this unfold and stepped into help. As wildlife filmmakers ourselves, we fully recognise the value of the incredible work this conservation group are doing for the natural world and its interaction with the human race. We got in touch and offered them some Cambush Cubes at ahugely discounted price to replace their stolen camera traps. They were exceptionally grateful & acceptedinstantly.
The Cube camera traps that we produce here in Herefordshire are able to broadcast quality footage and stunning audio from a compact trap of only 5 inches cubed and they weigh in at only 900gms each. Sending them to the USA was an easy thing to do and themountain lions can still be safely observed.
We are incredibly proud to support organisations like the Utah Mountain Lion Conservation and the invaluable work they do in today’s world. To find out more about Cambush, camera traps and the mountain lions in Utah, you can follow us on Instagram at @cambushuk and @utahmtnlionconservation
