A group of school children from St Thomas Cantilupe C of E School have taken an impressive stand against the pollution affecting the River Wye by launching a series of films at The Bishop’s Palace.
Over several months, the children have carried out research, heard from expert speakers, created artwork, spoken at public events and even attracted praise from renowned river activist Feargal Sharkey who commented on twitter:
“What a fantastic group of young people, looking very committed and determined already. I’m absolutely certain they’ll achieve great things.”
The children worked with local filmmaker, Kie Cummings, to bring their carefully crafted stories to life, with the aim of raising awareness in Herefordshire and beyond.
On Monday 26th June, the films were shown to an invited audience, including the Bishop, the Leader of Herefordshire Council and Mayor.
The children then answered questions from the floor and concluded the event with a song about caring for our environment.
The films will now be shown to a wider audience, starting with the Save the Wye event this Saturday.
Developing children’s ability to persuade and inform as well as to be creative is at the heart of the #iwill project, supported by the Herefordshire Community Foundation.
Class 5 proudly represented St Thomas Cantilupe and its vision to ‘shine bright your light’ on this most crucial of environmental issues.
