Focused on tackling domestic abuse and protecting victims, PCC John Campion has secured £1.2m of Home Office funding to support the rollout of a West Mercia wide domestic abuse perpetrator programme.
In line with PCC John Campion’s commitment to tackle all forms of domestic abuse, as set out in his Safer West Mercia Plan, the successful bid will help to challenge the thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours of more domestic abuse perpetrators in West Mercia.
With domestic abuse at epidemic levels, the PCC has been playing his part to drive societal change in West Mercia.
Since 2018, he has funded the DRIVE project, ran by Cranstoun to work with high-risk, high-harm perpetrators. As part of the PCC’s budget for 2023/24, the project is being rolled out across West Mercia.
Combining the funding from the PCC and the Home Office, it will create an all-risk level perpetrator programme delivered by one provider.
This huge leap forward means that all perpetrators will receive, for the first time in West Mercia’s history, the help and support they need to change.
PCC John Campion: “I am committed to breaking the cycle of domestic abuse, including having a system of effective perpetrator programmes across the whole of West Mercia.
“Securing more than £1.2 million is a momentous achievement and will help on my mission to do ever more to protect victims and support them from the life-changing damage of domestic abuse.
“It is vital we create an environment where victims in West Mercia feel confident enough to come forward as they know they will receive the best quality support as well as getting the justice they rightly deserve.
“That’s why this funding is so important as it will help to tackle domestic abuse at its root, reducing the number of victims by challenging and changing the behaviour of those inflicting pain.”
The all-risk perpetrator programme contract will be awarded to a provider in June following the conclusion of an ongoing procurement process.
