The final match of the Zzoomm Herefordshire Football League Division Two season was played out between the top two sides this past Saturday as second placed Leominster Town hosted first placed Wellington Colts.

The two teams have had great seasons being the stand outs in Division Two, the only points being dropped when they faced each other in the reverse fixture earlier this year.

Wellington went into the match as favourites needing only a point to secure the title while Leominster needed a win to lift the title on goal difference.

An incredible attendance of 200+ spectators came to witness the crunch match between the sides separated by one league position and a few miles of the A49. Wellington started the match the brighter and deservedly lead at half time.

The second half was a tightly contested affair with both sides playing positive football, creating chances and it was Leominster who draw back level in their bid to claim victory and the division title. Connor Bufton finding the net for the home team, while also cementing his place at the top of the Division Two goal scoring charts hitting 18 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions.

With the match and league title in the balance the result could of gone either way but eventually it was Wellington who made the decisive move with Michael Docherty scoring the winning goal giving Wellington the three points as the team finished the season with a 100% record as they lifted the trophy at the end of the match.

The Premier Division was hit by further postponements this past weekend, with Ledbury’s home match being called off due to a waterlogged pitch SC Inkberrow had another chance to catch up on their first placed rivals.

In an eight goal thriller, SC Inkberrow came out victorious in a competitive, entertaining match against previous League winners Clee Hill United.

The win leaves the Worcestershire side 4 points behind Ledbury Town with a game in hand. The two sides face each other on 22nd April which may well have a big say in whose hands the League trophy ends up in.
