Search and Rescue Teams are continuing to battle difficult weather conditions and high river levels to search for a woman who went missing on Wednesday.
In an update shared on Saturday, the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team said:
“We continue with our best efforts in the waterfalls area with the search for a lady believed to be in the river following the incident on Wednesday.
“Today was more searching of the river in a joint operation with Dyfed Powys Police, DPP Search Dogs and Wardens from Brecon Beacons National Park.
“Our search is being impacted by continued high levels of fast flowing water in the river which is being influenced by prevailing weather and throughout these conditions we will continue to work tirelessly to do as much as we possibly can.
“Our grateful thanks to members of the public for their offers of help and support.
“We will update on this ongoing search as and when we can.”
Sadly, it was confirmed at the end of last week that the body of one of the women who entered the river had been recovered.
In a statement released at the end of last week, Dyfed-Powys Police said:
“A large scale search of the Ystradfellte Falls area has been taking place over the past 24 hours after it was reported two people were seen in the river.
“The fire service, mountain rescue and National Police Air Support have all been involved in looking for two women believed to be those spotted by a walker.
“High, fast-flowing water meant the search was called off yesterday evening, however it resumed today at first light.
“Sadly, we can confirm the body of a woman was recovered from the river this morning (January 5).
“Support is being offered to both families at this tragic time. Efforts are ongoing to locate a second woman, who is also believed to be in the river.”
