UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has responded to reports of a missile strike by Russia on Poland by stating that the United Kingdom will ‘support its allies’.

In a tweet released this evening (Tuesday), the Prime Minister said:

“I have just spoken with the Foreign Secretary and Defence Secretary. We are urgently looking into reports of a missile strike in Poland and will support our allies as they establish what has happened.

“We are also coordinating with our international partners, including NATO.”

It comes following reports earlier this evening that a Russian missile had hit a village in Poland, with reports that there were at least two fatalities. This is yet to be confirmed, with The Pentagon and NATO among those looking to verify the claims.

Russia has strongly denied the claims, stating that any claims of a missile strike are a deliberate provocation from Poland.

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Zelenskyy responded to the news by saying:

“This Russian attack on collective security in the Euro-Atlantic is a significant escalation.”
