The Hereford & Herefordshire South Labour Party has responded after the Labour motion to force a vote on the fracking bill was defeated.

Joe Emmett (Policy Officer at the Hereford & Herefordshire South Labour Party) said:

“On shaky ground – was Jesse pushed or did he vote willingly?

“It is utterly reflectional of a Government so concerned about its own future that it forces its MPs to vote for something that many Conservative MPs disagree with.

“Confidence Vote or not, we are now left with the damning verdict that our Hereford and South Herefordshire MP Jesse Norman, and Bill Wiggin in North Herefordshire, both agree with Fracking.

“Fracking, which had been shown to be earthquake inducing and subsequently damaging to property prices and land is not the answer to our energy issue, Labour would ban it, there are far better alternatives. Furthermore, houses and families have already been hit with a mini-budget that caused awful financial shockwaves.

“And even if this may not take place here in Herefordshire for geological reasons, it means somewhere else in the country will. Whilst it is meant to be voted on by local people, we see too many times that outside pressure sways decisions. This often means, a few making lots of money whilst the many are left picking up the pieces.

“Overall, it is all utterly unacceptable, the scenes inside Parliament are a disgrace, bullying and intimidation that we strive not to see in our schools, workplaces etc has now become the latest unbelievable feature of this Conservative Government.

“In short, the more they stumble around lost the less focus on what really matters, on the Cost of Living Crisis, job security and so on.

“Labour have the plans & policies ready, so it’s time the Conservatives step aside and let a mature and rational party help this nation to thrive, and this applies nationally, as it does here in Hereford.”
