Ledbury businessman, Clive Brooks, will use pedal power to raise funds for the transport industry charity, Transaid, which seeks to reduce death and injury in Africa.
Clive, the MD of Palletline-owned transport firm ABE Ledbury, will join counterparts from across the country in Cycle Malawi – a five-day cycle ride through the heart of Africa.
Covering Southern Malawi, the group will cycle 502km acrossthe country.
Starting in Senga, the ride will encompass unique wildlife and African sunsets as the group makes its way to Mulanje, close to the Mozambique border. Along the way the cyclists will enjoy breath-taking scenery as they head for Lake Malawi, Mount Mulanje, Liwonde National Park and the Zomba Plateau.
The event will give Clive and his peers the opportunity to discover more about one of the many countries supported by Transaid over the years.
Clive said: “Transaid is a charity that works for a cause close to the hearts of everyone here at ABE and indeed the industry as a whole.
“Transaid works in economically developing countries to help improve their own transport infrastructure, not just benefiting those who work directly in the industry but those who rely on its service, which of course is almost everybody.”
Transaid’s vast remit includes providing professional driver and maintenance training in the countries it works with and improving transport management systems and rural access.
Transaid’s goal is to transform lives through safe, available and sustainable transport – The charity believes that every driver should be able to leave for a day’s work without the fear they may not come home because of a lack of training, or dangerous vehicles and roads. Nothing should prevent communities from accessing vital healthcare and every person should have the opportunity to build the skills they need to transform their future.
