Youth certainly looks the way forward for Westfields Football Club, with youngster Sam Griffiths grabbing a hat-trick for the club on his home debut.
Having bowed out of the challenge cup a few weeks ago, the Supplementary Cup was an opportunity for manager Phil Glover to give youth a chance with both Sam Griffiths and Scot Winstone making full debuts for the senior team. Sam having been previously used a couple of times as a substitute.
The first half was a very even affair with Westfields passing the ball around and creating a few chances which didn’t really test the Stratford FC keeper. The visitors looked dangerous on the break but also failed to hit the target. The teams went in level at half time but it was in the second half that Westfields showed their quality.
The first goal came following neat interplay from Dan Stoneman and Josh Hunt which resulted in Harrison Summers hitting the post with a follow up headed in by youngster Sam Griffiths. After a couple of half chances it was then a perfectly timed pass from Josh Hunt into Sam Griffiths that was then controlled and dispatched perfectly by the youngster into the bottom corner to make it 2-0. A brilliant save from Matt Apperley kept the clean sheet intact before a flurry of Westfields goals.
Grabbing his senior debut hat-trick with a neat far post finish, Sam Griffiths put Westfields 3-0 up and they now looked like scoring with every attack. Harrison Summers created and scored the next goal with a fine run and finish. Dan Stoneman then made it five goals in the last five games having started on the bench with a far post finish to make it 5-0. Harrison Iddles was next to score to make it 6-0.
Substitute Dan Beasley was another player making his debut for Westfields and he went close to making it 7-0 when he hit the post with a 20 yard strike. It was no surprise that the man of the match award went to Sam Griffiths, with his fabulous hat-trick showing that there is plenty to be positive about at Westfields.
