Plans for a tunnel under the River Wye have been revealed, with it being hoped that it is the answer to all of Hereford’s traffic woes.
The entrances to the tunnel will be located at Belmont and Kings Acre Road and it will cost passengers £2 to travel through the tunnel. The plans will be similar to the Mersey Tunnel and a dual carriageway will be in place throughout the length of the new road.
The plans have been finalised following in depth discussions after the cancellation of the Hereford Bypass.
It will be the first ‘crossing’ opened over or under the Wye for road traffic since the late 1960’s in Hereford.
One local resident said:
“I can’t wait to see the tunnel open. It will become a fantastic tourist attraction for the city of Hereford with people travelling for miles to see it.”
Further details are expected to be released at 12 noon. It is the 1st April after all …..
