Two teenagers, who cut their teeth at Hereford Rugby Club, are celebrating after helping Dragons to an epic Welsh Regional Age Grade (RAG) Championship title triumph.
Monmouth School for Boys’ students Freddy Harding, 18, and Tom Horan, 17, were members of the Dragons Under-18 team which edged a winner-takes-all championship finale against Cardiff at Ystrad Mynach.
Freddy, from Madley, played superbly and was on the field for about 3/4 of the game. Tom, who lives in Hereford, came off the bench for the last 15 minutes and looked sharp as Dragons clawed back a 10-point deficit with time running out to claim a thrilling victory, 29-27, in tricky conditions.
It was a lovely moment for Tom and Freddy, who have played rugby together since they were just six years of age at Hereford Rugby Club.
Mr Paul Morris, Master in Charge of Rugby Coaching at Monmouth School for Boys, said: “It was a fantastic effort from all of the Dragons players and coaches and we are especially proud of the contributions from both Freddy and Tom to the success of the team.
“Neither player had been in a Dragons squad before this season and this was a fitting reward for all their hard work and perseverance.”
