A 3km Protection Zone remains in place around Ross-on-Wye following a Bird Flu outbreak. Protection zones that were in place previously in the Leominster area of Herefordshire and Hay-on-Wye area of Powys in Wales have now been lifted.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed in birds at a premises near Ross-on-Wye, Hereford and South Herefordshire, Herefordshire on the 20 January 2022. A 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone has been put in place around the premises. All birds on the infected premises will be humanely culled.

Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance within the disease control zones declared on the 10 December 2021 surrounding this premises, the 3km Protection Zone has ended and the 10km Surveillance Zone has now been revoked. Local movement restrictions have now been removed but the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) measures remain in place.
