Herefordshire Council has issued a statement to Your Herefordshire over the proposed development at Merton Meadow car park in Hereford.

The statement comes after the news late in 2021 that Herefordshire Council would receive £2 million in funding for the scheme from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC).

Similar support for schemes in other areas such as Worcester and Exeter were also announced.

Hereford & Herefordshire South MP Jesse Norman responded to the news in October 2021 by tweeting the following:

However, Herefordshire Council have shared the following statement with Your Herefordshire this morning:

“Herefordshire Council has been provisionally offered infrastructure grant funding for the Merton Meadow site to assist with flood defences.

“The site’s future development will be considered as part of our city wide master planning, which will be undertaken over the next 12-months.

“Any future plans for the development of the site will include wide consultation with the local community.”

The statement above should give local residents plenty of reassurance that flooding concerns will be addressed prior to any building of properties on land at Merton Meadow.
