A Flood Alert has been issued on the River Wye in Herefordshire, following heavy rain from Storm Barra overnight.
The Environment Agency warning says:
“River levels are forecast to rise at the Hay-On-Wye river gauge as a result of Storm Barra. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected today 08/12/21.
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Wye from Hay on Wye to Ross on Wye. Other locations that may be affected include the A438, Byford, Bredwardine and Hereford.
“Predicted peaks:- Hay on Wye 2.5m to 2.7m morning of 09/12/21, Bredwardine 4.2m to 4.5m morning of 09/12/21, Belmont 4.3m to 4.5m afternoon of 09/12/21, Old Wye Bridge 3.9m to 4.1m afternoon of 09/12/21, Mordiford 4.1m to 4.4m afternoon of 09/12/21.
“Flooding of properties is not forecast at this point. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours. We expect river levels to remain high until 10/12/21. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. This message will be updated by 17:00 on 08/12/21, or as the situation changes.”
