The Bull’s Head, it is one of the last unspoiled drovers’ inns in England, a historic pub in Hereford’s most rural community of Craswall, at the edge of the Black Mountains. Going back hundreds of years the inn was once farm with a small parlour pub room, with a hole-in-the-wall bar which is still a remaining feature of the pub today.
Around seven years ago the pub closed it’s doors as the previous owners wanted to turn it into a residential property (something that they had done with multiple pubs before) and it looked like it might be the end for another of our rural pubs. Around 3 years ago the community managed to block this from happening, turning the pub in to an asset of community value through a series of petitions, demonstrations and a campaign which is detailed in the following article in the local CAMRA’s Hopvine magazine – http://herefordcamra.org.uk/Summer2018online.pdf
The results of the community coming together around the pub is what really put it on the new team that will be running the pubs radar and now after a few years of acquiring the pub from the previous owners and returning it to its former glory has very much been a lockdown project.
The team behind the reopening are Wild by Nature. They have a farm based in Longtown, just down the road from the pub, where they farm cattle, sheep and pigs. On the farm they have a butchery and make their own charcuterie, so much of the produce on the menu at the Bull’s Head will be from the farm, or from the wonderful food producers that surround them, and this true farm-to-table story, that is the history, culture and tradition of the area is what the team want to tell people when they visit the Bull’s Head.
The pub is set to reopen to the public on Thursday 25th November.
