A Herefordshire market town has taken the difficult decision to cancel its Christmas Lights switch-on event, due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19.
The following statement was issued by Leominster Town Council earlier today:
“Following concerns about rising cases of COVID-19, Leominster Town Council have made the difficult decision not to hold the Christmas Light Switch-On event planned for 27th November.
“As space in Corn Square is very restricted, the well-attended Christmas Light Switch-On presents more of a risk than other planned events. The lights will still be on each evening from 27th November until the 6th January. Leominster’s Victorian Street Market will be held on 11th December, with the benefit of free parking in Herefordshire Council car parks.
“Also, the ‘Through the Wardrobe’ Event for Leominster children, will still take place and will be a ticketed event on 18th December (tickets will be released shortly). In the week leading up to Christmas there will be a market in Corn Square on 21st and 24th December. Our priority is to ensure the public are kept safe when attending events.”
