From Edgar Street, to the European stage. The Rise of Jarrod Bowen. The lad from Leominster is now a fans favourite at West Ham and their new chant for him has got plenty of people talking!
Down and out. Hereford United looked dead and buried when John Akinde opened the scoring in a game against Alfreton Town at Edgar Street in April 2014. The Bulls looked set to be relegated from the Conference, however, the great escape was about to begin.
The Bulls quickly levelled and took the lead before Jarrod Bowen scored his first and only goal for Hereford United late on to secure the victory. Jarrod had previously made his Bulls debut in a 2-0 defeat against Barnet in March 2014.
After Hereford United were expelled from the Conference in June 2014, Bowen signed for Hull City where he went on to impress. At the annual end of season awards ceremony on 8 May 2018, Bowen won both the Hull City Supporter’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards.
On 31 January 2020, Jarrod Bowen signed for Premier League club West Ham United for £18 million plus significant add-ons. On 29 February 2020, Bowen scored his first West Ham goal in a 3-1 win against Southampton.
In September 2020, Bowen grabbed his first goals of the 2020/21 in a 4-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
On 21st October 2021, Bowen scored his first European goal for West Ham, with a goal in their 3-0 victory over Genk in the Europa League.
Speaking after scoring his first goal in European football, Bowen said:
“I remember scoring my first goal [for Hereford] against Alfreton in 2016/17. Now to score in the Europa League is a dream. I’m loving every minute”
