NMITE has today 24th March announced the appointment of Terence Jagger, CBE as its new Chair of the Board of Trustees. Until recently, Terence Jagger was Chair of the Board of Governors, Bath Spa University, a position he has held since November 2016. He will take over from Dame Fiona Kendrick in April who has been Chair of NMITE since July 2017.
Terence Jagger’s higher education experience will be of particularly relevance to NMITE, coming from a small, specialist university which has recently built a new campus, key to the regeneration of an area of its city home, and focused on continuously updating and modernising its curriculum. He also brings extensive and varied senior experience across public and private sectors, in the UK and overseas, including many years in the Ministry of Defence and four years as Chief Executive of Crown Agents, a leading international development company. He now runs a portfolio of board and consultancy roles in the public, private and third sectors.
Professor Elena Rodriguez-Falcon, NMITE’s President and Chief Executive “I am extremely excited to be welcoming Terence to NMITE at a key point in time for us as an organisation. Amongst his many skills and experience, his current role in terms of university governance will be hugely useful to us as we welcome our first students in September. I would also like to extend my thanks to Fiona for her support and guidance as she has led us over the last four years through key milestones that have brought us to where we are today. Her contribution to NMITE’s development has been phenomenal.”
Commenting on his appointment, Terence said: I am delighted to be joining NMITE at this exciting time: we are coming out of Covid, and expecting our first students in the autumn, so this year sees this wonderfully innovative institution really start to deliver engineering degrees for young people and the UK economy. In particular, I look forward to working with the local community in Hereford and the NMITE team to build a sustainable and growing institution, reaching out to a diverse range of students from all parts of British society.”
NMITE Trustee and Vice Chair of the Nominations Committee, Rowena Innocent, who is Group Head of STEM Strategy at Spectris plc and who led the recruitment process for NMITE said “The search for a new Chair attracted a set of exceptionally strong candidates. Terence will bring a wealth of public and private experience to the role having led organisations through extensive growth and change. Terence has a clear affinity for the NMITE model and is a strong advocate for diversity and it was his forward-thinking approach, engaging leadership style and enthusiasm to shake things up combined with his knowledge and experience that made Terence the ideal candidate for NMITE.”
