Prime Minister Boris Johnson has told reporters this lunchtime that he expects the United Kingdom to ‘feel the effects’ of a third wave of COVID-19 that is currently sweeping through Europe.
There are concerns that the number of cases of the variants first seen in South Africa and Brazil are continuing to rise. Countries such as Germany, France and Italy are all seeing an increase in cases which is causing deep concern due to the slow rollout of vaccines on the continent.
Boris Johnson went on to confirm that the UK is pushing to get as many people vaccinated as possible to limit any issues that could be caused by a third wave of infections.
