It was a good weekend for a number of our local footballers, with two of them facing each other in the Papa John’s Trophy Final at Wembley.
Goalkeeper Lee Burge from Hereford played in goal for Sunderland and midfielder Kieron Morris played for Tranmere Rovers. It was Burge who got to pick up the trophy at the end of the game as Sunderland won 1-0, thanks to a second half goal from Gooch.
Elsewhere, Jarrod Bowen played as a forward in West Ham United’s match at Old Trafford. Unfortunately for Bowen, Manchester United won the game thanks to an own goal in the second half.
Andy Williams came off the bench to score a dramatic winner for Cheltenham Town at Exeter, which keeps the Robins top of the League Two table.
Aaron Wildig’s Morecambe side were beaten 3-1 at home by Newport County.
