Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to detail the governments ‘roadmap out of lockdown’ later today.
The PM will first of all address MPs in the House of Commons at around 3.30pm this afternoon, before leading a Downing Street Press Conference at approximately 7pm this evening.
Some details of the Prime Minister’s plan have already been revealed, with all schools in England expected to reopen to all pupils on 8th March. Another of the rules expected to be announced is that outdoor recreation with one other person will also be permitted from 8th March, meaning people will be allowed to sit together with a coffee, drink or picnic.
It’s also been reported in many of this mornings papers that from 29th March, groups of up to six people, or two households, will be able to meet outdoors, including in private gardens and sports such as tennis and golf are expected to be given the green light to resume from this date.
Non-essential retail is expected to reopen in April, with hospitality also expected to open around the Easter period, with outdoor dining likely to be the first to resume, with indoor dining and drinking likely to return some weeks later.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak is likely to come under increasing pressure to extend the furlough scheme until the summer, with some sectors such as travel still being forced to remain closed, with the likelihood of foreign travel some months away, even as a best case scenario.
