Herefordshire Council has acted after a number of local residents complained about work that appeared to be underway to raise the bank of the stream next to Westfields Football Club.
Residents living in the Newtown Road area of Hereford were concerned that if work continued, it could potentially increase the risk of flooding in other areas of the city. Westfields FC regularly floods and has always been a floodplain for the Yazor/Widemarsh Brook. When in flood, the field contains a large amount of water that would otherwise flood properties in the city.
A spokesperson for Herefordshire Council said:
“No approval for the works have been given either by BBLP relating to works on the banks of the brook or Herefordshire Council regarding construction of the bund. The works are unauthorised and the council is in discussions with Westfields football Club for the immediate removal of the bund.”
