Overnight the sad news was announced that Dame Barbara Windsor, famous for her part as Peggy Mitchell in Eastenders and also for the Carry On films, had passed away aged 83, after a battle with Alzheimer’s.
Barbara was obviously famous for her TV appearances but she certainly will be remember by many in Hereford for when she visited Mr Chips in 1993.
Lizzie Robinson (Hodges) has kindly allowed us to share her photos of Dame Barbara Windsor’s visit to the chip shop in Hereford and shared this fond memory with us.
Lizzie said:
“Babs is a part of mine, Jade’s and Alan’s history. My surname was Hodges then. Unfortunately I can’t remember every member of staff that worked at Mr Chips then, but here’s a few names. Tina Gummer, Rita Waterworth, my nieces Clair Davies (was Steele then), and Marie Bunn (was Huttlestone then).
“I can’t quite remember what the occasion was, whether we’d had a bit of a re-vamp or we’d won chippy of the year.”
