The UK’s terror threat level is set to be raised from ‘substantial’ to ‘severe’ meaning that a terrorist attack is believed to be ‘highly likely’.
The move is believed to be as a result of recent attacks in Austria and France. Four were killed in Vienna last night and three people died in a knife attack in Nice last week.
The decision to raise the UK’s threat level has been taken by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC).
The ‘severe’ level is the second highest level, with ‘critical’ only being put in place following the Manchester Arena bombing in May 2017.
