Hereford FC groundsman Ben Bowen has worked his magic once again, to give the club one of, if not the best, playing surfaces in the National League North.

With a pitch that would be more than capable of hosting a football league team, Ben and his team have worked incredibly hard this summer to improve the surface.

Ben caught up with the official Hereford FC website earlier this week and said:

“We’re nearly there with the pitch,” admitted Bowen. “I’d say we are 80% there with it at the moment, but it’s looking good and we have a carpet out there ready for when the action gets underway at the weekend.

“We had the pitch back on June 5th after the open-air Boxing Show and then Stadium Fest had taken place on it.

“We quickly started the renovations on the Monday and 18 hours later they were complete, so that was a long working day!

“We cleaned the surface with a scarifier before punching in millions of holes, then put 400kg of seed down, 250kg of high nitrogen fertiliser, top dressed with 60 tonnes of sand and then the worry started with five weeks until the Arsenal game.”
