Hereford Lads Club started the Hellenic Premier League with a derby victory over Hereford Pegasus at The County Ground on Tuesday evening.

In truth, the visitors started the game the brighter side, with Cawley Cox and Carlos Moreira constantly causing issues for the Lads Club defence and Jamie Price and Ben Miller impressing in midfield.

After about 15 minutes, Lads Club started to get a foothold in the game and once Zac Sirrell had put the hosts into the lead with a fine finish, it looked like it would become a comfortable evening for Lads Club.

Despite this setback, Pegasus continued to push forward, but Kiea Cowley doubled the lead for the hosts before the break with a stunning curling effort that left Matt Gwynne in the Pegasus goal with no chance.

Pegasus started the second half well, but were denied by the woodwork and some good goalkeeping by Lads Club keeper Steven Bell. Just before the final whistle Lads Club grabbed their third of the evening when Adam Hockey raced away down the right hand side before crossing for Cam Peters to finish from close range.

Despite the defeat, Pegasus should go away feeling that they have plenty to be confident about this season, with plenty of attacking threat. Lads Club will also be confident. A strong first XI, combined with plenty of quality on the bench means that Danny Moon’s side could surprise a few this season.
