Pubs and restaurants in the North of England will be told on Monday that they will have to close again, to stop the spread of Coronavirus. Case numbers are continuing to significantly rise in cities such as Manchester and Liverpool and Boris Johnson has this evening signed off a document that will offer support to the hospitality industry in these areas, according to The Times.

A new three tier approach to lockdown restrictions will be put into place across England, with Merseyside and other areas of Northern England placed on the highest tier, meaning that bars, restaurants, coffee shops and possibly hairdressers will be forced to close. Schools and other workplaces will remain open.

In the middle tier, areas will have a simplified version of the current local lockdown restrictions. In the lowest tier, likely at this current time to include Herefordshire, areas would have to follow national restrictions, such as the rule of six and the 10pm curfew on pubs and restaurants.

It comes as pubs in Scotland have been banned from serving alcohol indoors for 16 days from Friday.
