National news outlets are today reporting that Odeon Cinemas will NOT be showing any films from Universal Studios due to a disagreement over future releases.

AMC (Odeon’s parent company) boss Adam Aron said the ban will cover its 1,000 cinemas worldwide following a statement to the Wall Street Journal unveiling plans to release future Universal titles to cinemas and streaming sites AT THE SAME TIME.

In a letter to Universal Studios’ chair, Mr Aron said the studio was trying to “have its cake and eat it too”.
He added: “Going forward, AMC will not license any Universal movies in any of our 1,000 theatres globally on these terms.”

Upcoming Universal titles include the latest installments in the James Bond, Purge, Fast and Furious and Jurassic World franchises.
