Chun Xu has been jailed for life and he will serve a minimum of 30 years in prison for the murder of Wenjing Lin and the attempted murder of her step father, Yongquan Jiang.

The 32 year-old was found guilty of murder on Tuesday, November 9, and appeared before a judge at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court today (Friday, 12 November) for sentence.

He strangled Wenjing Lin before attacking Jongquan Jiang with two knives at the Blue Sky Takeaway on Baglan Street, Treorchy on Friday, 5 March, 2021.

The court heard how he was seeking revenge over a money debt that he owed the family.

Following his conviction, Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Lewis said that he was pleased that the trial has resulted in the successful conviction of Chun Xu. He went on to say how he evidence gathered demonstrated that this was a pre-meditated and callous murder of an innocent, bright, talented and loved 16 year-old girl and a brutal attack on her step-father with an obvious attempt to kill him.
