Boris Johnson has poured cold water on the prospect of a scotch egg being classed as a ‘substantial meal’ when pubs reopen on Wednesday.

This is despite comments earlier from George Eustace (Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) who told LBC this morning that a Scotch Egg should be classed as a ‘substantial meal’ as confusion continues in the hospitality sector ahead of the change from a national lockdown to a three tier approach to COVID-19 restrictions in England on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister’s spokesperson said:

“Bar snacks do not count as a substantial meal. It’s well-established in the hospitality industry what does.”
