A Hereford based school has brought forward its Sports Day, to avoid the ‘extremely high temperatures’ that are being forecast for early next week.

The Hereford Academy announced that its Sports Day that was due to take place on Monday 18th July has been brought forward to this week and will take place over the coming days.

A spokesperson for The Hereford Academy confirmed the news and said:

“THA has decided not to have Sports Day on Monday (18th July) but instead will have it in 3 separate 2-hour slots Periods 1-2 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week (13th-15th July). The awards for sports day will be held on the last day (21st July) during assembly.

“Due to the high temperatures due to hit next week, we will have an earlier condensed format for our final four days: Finishing earlier but starting earlier thus being away for the hottest part of the day.”

More details can be found over on their Facebook page.

The Met Office extreme heat warning for Herefordshire is valid on Sunday and Monday and says:

“Temperatures will rise again later this week and over the coming weekend, likely peaking on Sunday and Monday, but may last into Tuesday in places. Some exceptionally high temperatures are possible and cumulative effects of warm nights and hot days are expected to bring widespread impacts to people and infrastructure.”
