Further rainfall is expected to cause flooding in Herefordshire over the coming days, with rivers across Herefordshire expected to respond.

A flood watch is in place on the River Wye in Herefordshire and the Flood Warning Information Service have said:

“River levels have risen at the Hay-On-Wye river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected to continue. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Wye from Hay on Wye to Ross on Wye.

“Other locations that may be affected include the A438, Byford, Bredwardine and Hereford.

“Predicted peaks:- Hay on Wye 2.2m to 2.5m on 16/12/20 afternoon, Bredwardine 4.6m to 4.9m on 16/12/20 morning, Belmont 4.8m to 5.1m on 17/12/20 morning, Old Wye Bridge 4.4m to 4.7m at on 17/12/20 morning, Mordiford 4.4m to 4.7m on 17/12/20 morning, Ross on Wye 3.4m to 3.8m on 17/12/20 afternoon.

“Further frontal rainfall is forecast from Wednesday morning 16/12/20. We expect river levels to remain high over the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid contact with flood water. This message will be updated by 17:00 on 16/12/20, or as the situation changes.”

A flood watch is also in force on the River Lugg in Herefordshire.
