The Daily Mail has reported Former Hereford FC player coach Chris Barker took his own life following the death of his parents.

An inquest heard, Barker aged 39, was found hanged on New Years Day after losing both parents. The former Cardiff City defender left notes before taking his own life.

Barker joined Hereford FC in July 2016, and stayed at Edgar Street until October 2016 where he left to join Weston SM as player assistant manager.

Barker had trialled at Edgar Street under Martin Foyle in 2013 when the club was known as Hereford United, but at the time opted to join Aldershot Town instead.

The popular defender played over 500 Football League games, and included Barnsley, Plymouth and Southend as his other clubs.
