A decision to roll out booster COVID-19 jabs to all over 18’s in the United Kingdom could be announced as early as today.

The Government is waiting on updated advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) and this is expected to arrive as early as later today. The group is also said to be deciding whether to shorten the gap between your second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and your booster jab and also whether to offer 12-15 year-olds a second dose.

The Government is keen to get as many people fully vaccinated as possible, especially following the emergence of the Omicron variant, with three cases identified so far in the UK and that number expected to rise in the coming days.

If the roll out of booster jabs is extended to all over 18’s then an improvement in the roll out will need to occur in Herefordshire, with many people having to travel beyond the county boundaries, to places such as Malvern, Cheltenham and Bromsgrove at present to receive their booster dose. Hundreds of people queued and waited hours at a walk-in vaccine clinic in Leominster earlier this month.
