A talented Herefordshire harpist has finished runner-up in a regional music competition.

Olivia Westerlund, from Ross-on-Wye, won the Year 7 to Year 13 harp section and was second overall in the whole event.

Olivia is a Year 8 student at Monmouth School for Girls and the virtual music competition involved students from throughout South Wales.

Olivia, 13, dazzled with John Parry’s Sonata 1 in the Online Eisteddfod organised by Glamorgan Music School.
Olivia’s name and placing were read out by legendary actor and writer, Brian Blessed OBE.

Fellow Monmouth School for Girls’ Year 8 pupil, Emily Walker, was a finalist in the vocal section with I Could Have Danced All Night from the musical, My Fair Lady.

Politician Jane Hutt MS, The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Rod McKerlich, and Chris Jones Founder of SW20 Radio, were the judges for the competition.
