Nina Purcell seen being presented with a CBE from HRH Princess Anne at a recent investiture in Windsor Castle. The award given for services to consumer safety in England, Wales and Northern Island.

Nina started her Civil Service career in 1975 with the Unemployment Benefit Service based in St Peters Square Hereford. Over the following 30 years she held various roles within the Employment Service and Jobcentre Plus, before moving on to become Chief Operating Officer with the Animal Health & Veterinary Laboratories Agency, DEFRA.

In 2015 she was appointed Director General at the Food Standards Agency where her work involved developing regulatory frameworks to ensure food safety collaborating Internationally with Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Now retired Nina is founder and Chair of Rotary Helping Herefordshire and lives in Hereford with her husband Stephen Hughes.
